THE BEST HORROR FILMS OF 2013
“Either way, it’s going to be one hell of a ride.” – Gravity, dir. Alfonso Cauron
“Want to play a game of hide and clap?” – The Conjuring, dir. James Wan
It’s been such a long year for this old saint. I can honestly say I’ve seen more films this year than ever before and while that might sound awesome to most of you, in actuality it can be something of a chore. Think about it for a hot minute or so, you get to watch nearly every movie released this year but how many of them do you actually have a good time watching? I … Continue reading
It’s entirely possible that you’re not going to run out, rent and line these up for Christmas day. And it’s also pretty likely that quite a few of these titles are just simply beyond renting anyways. Most likely an old VHS rental local might do the trick. However, it’s always nice to know what your options are…and for your viewing pleasure we have rounded up 20 of the best of the best and best of … Continue reading
13. Time After Time (1979)
This movie makes the list even though it isn’t really a horror movie. It isn’t scary at all, actually, but the plot, while a bit cheesy at times, also contains a bit of genius, including its star Malcolm McDowell. Here’s the deal: the notion of a serial killer is not a modern one. Jack the Ripper, while arguably the most famous serial killer, is not modern … Continue reading
10 Horror Movie Rumors that Never Took Place (and by the Grace of God Never Will)
People just generally enjoy spreading rumors, especially in the horror movie business.
I’ve heard a ton of horror flick rumors during my day and while some of them sound like they had the potential to be true there are others that are just so out there and downright weird that I dismissed them immediately. I not sure where or … Continue reading
There is an interesting article by Alison Nastasi over at Flavorwire.com about fifteen obscure horror film titles. I always love reading these lists that other writers come up with because invariably there are some titles on them that I have not only not seen yet but have never even heard of before. This list is no exception, and it’s unfortunate that a film like Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (1971), released … Continue reading
The last of our list rounding off a smattering of sick and repulsively get under your skin films for underground horror enthusiasts. Titles will get added as discovered.
Continuing on with our list of the most unsettling, disturbing films on the planet, we bring you titles E-K. Make sure to also check the other parts of this list. The list is divided into 4 sections and is updated often.
More Extreme Cinema titles to damage your brain and never look at cinema the same way again. Continuing with our list of most disturbing films ever made. List will be updated as new sick discoveries are made. If a film for some reason fails to meet the criteria it will be removed and placed among standard horror.
Looking for a comprehensive list of extremely disturbing films? You came to the right place! We are constantly updating this list with film titles that represent the best of the worst. By that we mean films that are highly controversial, banned, hard to watch and unsettling.
A better way to put it is “Beyond Extreme”. The list is one of the most complete in the world only lacking those we haven’t gotten to yet to … Continue reading
Ok, as the store shelves quickly empty in the last minute costume frenzy for 2013, we had to quickly throw out some Halloween horror ideas that fit nicely within this year’s trends. Freddy, Pinhead, Michael Myers and Jason may be a bit old school with all their remakes a thing of the past, but fear not as horror is still as strong as ever. The characters have evolved into new faces with the re-hashing of … Continue reading
While it’s safe to say that most horror films are works of fiction, there have been a small hand full that have actually been based on or “inspired from” true stories that have occurred in the past. In fact, it’s also safe to say that most horror films have been “inspired” from something or other, however this list pays tribute to the top 10 horror films that are more closely based on true stories.
Even … Continue reading
The Top 10 Horror Video Games was a tough list to come up with, because there are so many great horror video games to choose from. I completely composed this list of next generation console games (Xbox 360 and Playstation 3), so you should be able to go out and purchase these titles at your local game retailer just in time for Christmas. Also, I had to determine what … Continue reading
Dance of the Vampires
Vampires and musicals are just about as popular a combination as vampires and movies, so there are plenty to choose from. This one, however, is based off the1967 film The Fearless Vampire Killers, Or: Pardon Me But your Teeth are in My Neck. It has gone through many productions worldwide, but is known stateside for being one of the costliest failures in Broadway history because they tried to make … Continue reading
If your like me, you find yourself frequently growing tired of redundancy in the horror market. You know what I’m talking about…..a group of teens go on a road trip, campers terrorized by woods folks, slasher has rough childhood and grows up, scientist’s secret virus gets loose..shall I go on? In any case, you might change your whole perspective by occasionally throwing on something that is far outside of mainstream and richly inventive. Now out … Continue reading
The Conjuring is officially a summer blockbuster, taking in over $107 Million in the U.S. alone (as of August 10, 2013), a phenomenal feat for a supernatural film coming out mid-summer amongst a bevy of big-budget tent pole films with big stars attached. James Wan is a master of suspense and fear with Insidious, Saw and the often overlooked Dead Silence behind him. With The Conjuring, James Wan and writers Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes … Continue reading
If anything is to be said about the films of the last decade (and before), it is that super hero films have ruled the box offices. Looking back over the years you can follow the transformation of comic book characters who were less well received due to insufficient movie making technology as they grew into the largest box office draws ever in move history. We have come a long way when we look at past … Continue reading
With all the lists floating around, especially in the “scariest movies of all time” lists, I thought we were due for a “recent” scariest films list. If not for purely the sole purpose of driving a fewer new rentals where they might rightly be deserved to just siphoning thru all the mishmash to point out a few scary favorites.
As sort of a ongoing “tuck in the back of your mind” exercise, I try and … Continue reading
What movies bother you? If you are like most people you can name several films that you’ve seen that are so disturbing that they stayed with you for days after you watched them. I have seen quite a few movies that made me feel more than just a little uneasy, but there are some that stand out more than others. Some of them are horror films and some are not (one in particular is aimed … Continue reading
Let’s face it, not everybody is afraid of the same things. What scares some people may not faze others, and this is particularly true when it comes to horror films. I am a huge horror fan and I have seen a ton of horror films in my lifetime (I got started early thanks to my mom and favorite uncle who both got me into the genre at a very young age). I’ll admit that some … Continue reading
A horror list most likely way overdue. I’ve always had a soft spot for supernatural characters. The ones that stick out are characters who seem to possess powers that warp time, space, and everything around them. Consider it sort of a technique for making nightmarish things happen that you wouldn’t find happening within a film like “Halloween” or “Friday the 13th”.
You definitely wouldn’t find it in zombie films, vampire films or aquatic creature films. … Continue reading
