Interview: fx artist - INGRID OKOLA - 01.18.10
Dr. Gorehound: When did you first enter the make-up FX industry and what inspires you the most about doing it?
Ingrid Okola: first officially started doing FX makeup was about 9 years ago but before that I was doing elaborate Halloween stuff for me and My friends including decorating friend's halloween parties. I get inspired but other SFX makeup artist work and the Story/Scripts of the material given to me.

Dr. gorehound: What horror films have you done make-up FX on?
Ingrid Okola: Wonton Baby, Dead Air, Holocaust Holocaust, I Sell the Dead ( assistant FX ), Plague Town , A Crime, Blood Son, The Seance, Urchin ..Just to name a Few.
Dr. Gorehound: Whats the hardest special effect you ever had to pull off in a movie or TV show?
Ingrid Okola: the perfect Bald Cap with limited time also one time I had Air Squib effect where I had lots technical difficulties ( angle, clothes, pressure and clogging ) everything possible happened for that one . also Won Ton Baby had a few challenges cause of 3 camera angle filming and schedule.

Dr. Gorehound: How was it like working on the horror movie I Sell the Dead?
Ingrid Okola: Such amazing talent Like Ron Pearlman, Angus Scrimm, Dominic Monaghan, and Larry Fessenden how can you not have a great time also I had the pleasure to work With G&S Effects ( Brian and Pete ) who where so talented and cool..
Dr. Gorehound: What can we expect from your upcoming horror movie Won Ton Baby in terms of FX?
Ingrid Okola: Well a lot of cool things like a umbilical cord with a healthy sexual drive and mind of its own. However James Morgart Director of " Won Ton Baby" put it best the gore is like an homage to a Lucio Fulci film

Dr. Gorehound: Who are your favorite film directors to work with from time to time?
Ingrid Okola: Definitely James Morgart of "Won Ton Baby", Sofian Khan of "Holocaust Holocaust", Noah Luciani "38 Thriller" and Glenn McQuaid of "I Sell the Dead " he makes you strive for perfection
Dr. Gorehound: Who are your favorite make-up FX legends?
Ingrid Okola: Dick Smith, Rob Bottin, Ve Neil, Rick Baker , Tom Savini and the talents in WETA Workshops, DDT , KNB EFG.
Dr. Gorehound: What are your top 5 favorite horror films?
Ingrid Okola: WOW that is hard I Love so Many …but I Guess The Exorcist, Hellraiser 1 &2 , The Thing, Nekromantik , Zombie , Cutting Moments , Dead Alive and Day of The Dead , recently I really really liked "Paranormal Activity" sorry cant just Name 5

Dr. Gorehound: How was it like working on the TV show "All my Children"?
Ingrid Okola: Great Experience they really took me in as part of the family and had to think on your toes, the Head of makeup department Robin Kaiser really appreciated and nurtured the fact that I can do extensive effects and Beauty as well, it opened many doors for me.
Dr. Gorehound: What make-up FX have you done for the horror film The Pack and Holocaust Holocaust?
Ingrid Okola: for The Pack there is aging and persons progression of lung cancer. Holocaust Holocaust , the cannibals , leg cutting, squirting head, design zombies and My friend Marissa Masella , Eddie Melaned and Jay Alvino to complete and execute my zombie's.
Dr. Gorehound: Have you ever wanted to work with CGI effects for film..or will you always be a practical effects person?
Ingrid Okola: I have already on "All My Children" and I will do more … I really think if you marry them together well you get some really cool stuff like in the re- make of " The Hills Have Eye's "
Dr. Gorehound: What's your dream film to do FX for?
Ingrid Okola: work on a werewolf movie with a real transformation like "American Werewolf in London" or a period piece film where you really change an actor to its character Like "La Vie En Rose" or Bramstoker's "Dracula"

Dr. Gorehound: Have you won any awards for your make-up FX?
Ingrid Okola: no maybe one day
Dr. Gorehound: What film have you seen recently that the FX in it amazed you?
Ingrid Okola: thought it was a marriage of CGI and FX Makeup "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" , "Irreversible" and the FX makeup people of NIP TUCK

Dr. Gorehound: Do you always create props like severed limbs and stuff like that?
Ingrid Okola: No not always it depends on the size of the cast and production . If I am Key or head of the department I am doing both beauty and FX Makeup so I have Other Artists /Friends come aboard like Marissa Masella and Paul Mafuz.

Dr. Gorehound: Did you attend any college for training in make-up FX..or was it a self taught thing?
Ingrid Okola: your always learning went to School Last looks Makeup academy but always trying to learn and self teaching my self too.
Dr. Gorehound: How was it like working on Plague Town and Dead Air?
Ingrid Okola: Dear Air I was a little bit of everything every small production but had a great time doing set design and FX makeup the actors were willing to do anything to get the shot which is always makes your job easier and fun for Plague Town it was a much bigger production, full silicone prosthetics which is fun to do, I got to work with Brian again from G&S effects which always makes it a good time. The kids where such hard workers
full makeup and muck for hours and hours my hat went off to them.
Dr. Gorehound: Have you ever wanted to work on a 3-D horror film..since its the latest thing with films like My Bloody Valentine and Piranha 3-D?
Ingrid Okola: Sure why not

Dr. Gorehound: What advice would you give to aspiring FX artists just entering the industry?
Ingrid Okola: if you trying to get in, get friends and play take photos and make a Comp card with your best stuff go/ email Film school or theater company and say you do FX makeup , If your already doing some stuff and your production doesn't have cash there is many household things you can use to make some really good stuff also play play play, Now for and working on HD and cameras like RED Less is more ( watch your red and colors Bloods )

Dr. Gorehound: Any last words for the readers of horrornews.net?
