Exclusive Horrornews.net Interview: Chuck Taylor

Dragon Gate Wrestler

Forum gallery001 400x171 Who would win in this No Holds Barred Horror Genre Cage Match – Michael
Myers vs Jason Voorhees ?

I'd go with Jason Voorhees easily. Mostly because I've always found Michael Myers kinda boring. I'm a huge John Carpenter fan but Myers never really did anything for me

Do you have an all time favorite horror movie?

My favorite horror film of all time is John Carpenter's "The Thing" from 1982. It's an absolutely perfect film. I'm also a big fan of Romero's "Dawn of the Dead."

What do you think about this odd relationship between horror and
wrestling, Horrornews.net and Dragon Gate?

It really kind of makes sense. I know a ton of wrestlers who are big horror fans. Wrestling is kind of the bastard child of popular culture, just like horror films are the bastard child of cinema. Neither have gotten the respect they deserve, and both have very devoted fans. Plus mainstream horror and mainstream wrestling both have a tendency to suck, so you really have to go out of your way to find the good stuff.

November 12th in Philadelphia at the old ECW arena, I'll be covering the
matches for Horrornews.net! This is the first time our website is going
to covering a wrestling event of any kind. What is your strategy to
defeat Yamato?

YAMATO is a former Pancrase fighter, and a very hard hitter. I'll probably have to be more of a high-flyer than usual to stay away from his strikes. I also cheat a lot. I'm really good at it, and have no problem doing it. I'm an asshole, and have no real regard for my own personal safety, so I'm just a liable to gouge his eyes out as I am to fling myself out of the ring on top of him to take him down.

Yamato is part of Junction Three. What can you tell us about that group?

I don't know a whole lot about Junction Three. I went to Japan in March and the group had not yet formed. Apparently they rose from the ashes of two or three different groups. To tell you the truth, they change so much that it's hard to keep up with, and I don't really care what color they are wearing this week. This match is for the top prize in Dragon Gate USA and I'll do whatever it takes to win that title, no matter what color trunks he's wearing.

You are part of the RONIN. What can you tell us about your group?

RONIN formed with the sole purpose of getting our names to the top of the card. Myself, Johnny Gargano, and Rich Swann have done that. We've main evented shows, all three of us have done tours of Japan, and now everyone in Dragon Gate knows exactly who we are and what we are capable of. We will do whatever is necessary to get the job done.

Why did you become a pro wrestler?

Pro wrestling, when done right, is the highest form of art there is. I will stand by that to the day I die. Nowhere else can athleticism and drama come together in such an amazing way, in a live event with fans being a part of the show. I became a wrestler because it's the only thing I've ever wanted to do.

What has been the most violent match of your career?

I've had a few different matches that were pretty violent. I had a match in CHIKARA with Icarus against The Colony that was really wild. I gave Soldier Ant a piledriver off of the apron through a table on the floor. I had a match in PWG against El Generico in which we used tables, chairs, trash cans. etc. I've been involved in matches with thumbtacks, barbed wire, balconies, all sorts of different things. Wrestling is weird.

What other matches do you have coming up with Dragon Gate?

On Friday November 11th, it's myself and Johnny Gargano against the near 7 foot monster Brodie Lee and Dragon Gate legend CIMA. We have a lot of history with those two and it should be a wild match. I'll be on the show Sunday the 13th in Manhattan, possibly as the new Dragon Gate USA champion. Come out and see them!
