RED SQUAD Acquires John McTiernana for HANNIBAL CLASSICS

Celebrated filmmaker John McTiernan has signed on to direct “Red Squad,” an action film from Hannibal Classics. Casting for the leading roles is currently underway with production slated to begin in this spring.  Filming will take place in Mobile, Alabama.

McTiernan is known for directing such blockbusters as “Predator,” “Die Hard,” and “The Hunt for Red October,” and other landmark films including “Die Hard With A Vengeance,” “The 13th Warrior,” and “The Thomas Crown Affair.” “Red Squad” marks John McTiernan’s long, awaited returne to the genre he elevated and that made him one of the world’s premier filmmakers.

To “Red Squad” producer and Hannibal Chairman/CEO Richard Rionda Del Castro, having McTiernan direct this film represents the ideal pairing. “We are thrilled John McTiernan will be directing ‘Red Squad.’ He is known for directing smart, exciting action films. And John is the type of director our film requires,” said Rionda Del Castro. “His style will translate all the elements on screen, superbly.”

Producing with Rionda Del Castro is Michael Mendelsohn. “Red Squad” will be their fourth collaboration.  Executive Producers are Patricia Eberle, Hayley Arabia, Michael Tadross, Jr., and Cam Cannon. The film is financed by Patriot Pictures. Hannibal Classics is the worldwide sales agent, and Hannibal Production is the production company.

Written by Cannon and Jorge Suarez, “Red Squad” is a story told in the spirit of a modern-day “Magnificent Seven.”  The film centers on a former DEA agent, who has always had a rogue streak, and his select team of mercenaries as they descend upon a Mexican border town in a daring attempt to neutralize a ruthless drug lord.

McTiernan is represented by Paradigm.
