Compelling story with documentary elements excuse the blatant prurience occurring under Jac Avila’s direction. Amy Hesketh is wonderfully committed to giving herself totally to her admirers and is supported by an equally professional cast. Notably Roberto Lopez carries the centreal pillar of self-righteous certainty that the Inquisition was doing good work in its treatment of heretics, apostates, satanists and others who offended the core moral tenets of the Roman Catholic Church in the sixteenth century. One shares with the director, male actors and crew an unspoken admiration and affection for the two women who suffer seeming cruelty for our entertainment and therapy. Why are some men drawn to fantasies of domination over females, when in fact we adore the sex? Top marks for Vermeer and all who work to make such memorable films.
