MANIAC Remake Gets Its Theatrical And VOD Debut Date

The remake of MANIAC has been spending some time on the festival circuit and pretty much been kicking ass anywhere it plays. This morning brings the news that IFC MIDNIGHT is ready bring this retelling of the classic 1980 spatterfest to the masses.

June 21st, that’s the date that MANIAC which stars Elijah Wood, America Olivo, and Nora Arnezeder will hit theaters as well as the VOD platform. Directed by Franck Khalfoun from a screenplay by Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur this retelling is reported to be every bit as violent as the original.

Following the same crazy storyline as the original MANIAC tells the tale of a scalp seeking madman:

Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.

Looking forward to seeing this one, buzz is that it’s a keeper. I’m sure a Blu-ray release will be announced soon!
