Interview: Deborah Funes

I was recently lucky enough to sit down with the sweet and talented model/actress Deborah Funes to discuss the world of modeling and some of the movies and TV shows that she has been working on. If you aren’t familiar with her you will be soon enough as she is a very talented (and pretty) young landy who is about to make her impact on the horror genre.

Todd Martin: So how did you get into modeling and what companies have you modeled for in the past?

Deborah Funes: I started modeling in Argentina when I was a very young student. I did a couple of fashion shows and I was also a promotional model for Benetton, Coca Cola, etc. Later in Miami I started some modeling for Faccia Italy lingerie, Mikro Kitten Bikini, Baby Go Back Calendar, Play Boy TV, Howard A. Feld Art Gallery and print campaign, Body Control campaign, Crema Concha Perla campaign, We Select Models, Scream Farm Calendar, Avatar Productions, Elite Serum, and many others.

TM: You’ve done some acting as well, and if given the choice which one do you prefer (modeling or acting) and why?

DF: I had done a lot of modeling for many photographers all over US, especially on the East coast and have enjoyed it to the fullest. I still love to shoot and many photographers shoot me all the time for their portfolio or modeling gigs…but acting is something that not every model can do.

I love the challenge of acting now!!. I love to feel it and become someone else. Sounds crazy but in each role I have the opportunity to become another person in another reality totally different than mine.WOW! Acting is like re-incarnation to me…

TM: Tell us a little about yourself. What do you like to do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies or other interests that keep you occupied?

DF: In my free time I enjoy cooking healthy food, I do some yoga, Pilates, work out at the gym, do so running, spend time at the sauna, I enjoy kick boxing and enjoy spending time by the pool the ocean. I also paint in canvas with acrylic and take singing classes. I never stop leaning… I studied Metaphysics and now I share my knowledge with people who have an interest in it as well. I do art direction and post production for photo shoots and videos. I am trying to get involved in production too as I want to produce and direct my own movies on the future. But I am also a FUN girl! I love to go out one or two times a week with my girlfriends to top events and private parties. I also go to best restaurants for dinner with friends and “pretenders”. I really enjoy my life in Miami Beach! This is Paradise!!!

TM: You are in the upcoming film Jebadiah’s Axe. Can you tell us about the movie and the character that you play in it?

DF: Jebadiah’s Axe is a horror feature films that will be shooting in Dallas, TX this year. The producer (Jim DeVault) offered me the lead role on this one, and I am happy to play the part of Rose. The actor Burton Gilliam, who was in Back to the Future and many other major productions will be part of the cast as well. The movie’s premise revolves around a guy named Jebadiah who worked and lived on his land for many many years, and he hates trespassers, and Rose eventually ends up being one of the people who trespasses on his land!

I can’t tell you much more about this movie or my character because I don’t want to ruin the suspense. Let’s keep it secret until the premiere when viewers can have fun finding out for themselves what it is all about!

TM: What is the scariest movie that you have ever seen? Has there ever been one that freaked you out so badly that you had trouble sleeping at night?

DF: The scariest movie? Hmmm, that’s a tough one as I don’t get scared easily, but The Shining with Jack Nicholson scares me every time I watch it. When a Stranger Calls really freaked me out too! Mainly because I have had to deal with those types of phone calls in real life and I hate them!!

TM: What would be your dream role and why?

DF: My dream role would be Katherine Tramell (Sharon Stone) from the Basic Instinct films because she is a sophisticated, naughty, sexy and smart woman who hates men and loves risk. She is the type of women that I play every once in a while in my real life…just for fun…

TM: Who are some of your favorite actors, actresses, directors, etc? What is your all-time favorite movie?

DF: For actors I like Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, and also I have a crush on Channing Tatum…lol When it comes to actresses I have to say Meryl Streep, Sharon Stone, Katherine Heigl and Cameron Diaz. The best producers to me are the ones that gave me the opportunity to work with them! Thank you all!!! But…I have to mention that I admire Nancy Meyers, Brian Grazer, Steven Spielberg and many others. My all time favorite movie is The Holiday and I am not surprised that the writer, producer and director was a woman…because it is all about LOVE.

TM: Anything that you would like to add or anyone you would like to give a shout out to?

DF: I’d like to add that I love horror/thriller movies so this year I will be playing my second lead role in one of them, a feature film called “Wisp”. The movie will be shooting in Pennsylvania this summer and the director Paul Gorman offered me the role of Commissionaire Gray Williams. I have also supporting role in Not Quite Dead, a TV series that deals with vampires. We will shoot the pilot next month.
