Book Review: Cut Corners – Author Ramsey Campbell, Bentley Little, Ray Garton

A new publisher has been introduced. One that specializes in what we all secretly love and dread: HORROR! The name of this publisher you may ask? They’re called Sinister Grin Press. A well suited name for a publishing house that delivers the good in horror fiction.

I have finished reading an anthology which consists of three stories. They were written by well known writers whose work we come to love and cherish. You may recognize these names, if you’re new to the whole genre of horror, you’ll be sure to write their names down on a separate piece of paper. Go to your local bookstore and search for titles written by these talented people.

Ramsey Campbell’s The Address is a tale one will discover to be in every sense: creepy, disturbing and fun to read. If anything, the three stories contained are sure enough to cause something to stir within you. Perhaps it’s a feeling you haven’t felt for a long time. Either case, it’s there and after you read Ramsey’s story, it’s only going to get a lot worse.

Next title we have is: Conversation Between Two Women Overheard at my Dentist’s Office. This entertaining yet, bizarre short story is enough to make you wonder what really goes on in the minds of such writers who are able to come up with atrocious stuff? I know I’m one of those said writers. If you don’t think otherwise, check out Bentley Little’s work. If you look up the word WEIRD in the dictionary, you’ll find a picture of the writer next to the word. He is the master of weird.

Next we have Autophagy by Ray Garton. This is one of those stories where you have to understand the logic put into it when it was written by Ray. Like Bentley and any other horror writer out there, he’s not afraid to push the envelope. Maybe he pushes it a little too far. Either way. He does it with style and it’s effective. That’s all that matters when reading a horror story, that it has to disturb you and make you ponder whether what horrific trauma had these writers gone through while growing up.

I have this feeling, it tears at my insides, at night when I’m laying in bed, I hear a little voice in my head saying, “Expect more good horror stories from Sinister Grin Press and future volumes of their new anthology series Cut Corners.”

So that’s what I’m going to do. If you don’t believe me, just go ahead and read any of the other reviews out there about this new anthology series and the stories contained within.
