Guillermo Del Toro Loses ‘AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS’

The dream is dead, and Guillermo Del Toro’s vision for AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS will never see the light of day, at least as a Universal film, anyway. Universal turned yellow at the idea of giving the green light to an R-rated horror film that would require an estimated $150 million to create. The price tag was apparently too high for the studio, despite names like Tom Cruise tied to the project and they decided to pull the plug on the project. This means pure devastation for both the fans of Lovecraft and Del Toro, who has stated on numerous occasions that making this film has been his dream for over fifteen years.

How this will affect Del Toro’s other projects including the video game inSane currently in development, only time will tell. Hopefully Del Toro will not give up on bringing the works of H. P. Lovecraft to the big screen.

Rumors about a possible date in June to begin filming on AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS prompted criterioncast.com to question the director about the future of the film and if indeed the rumors were true. In an email Del Toro replied:

“The opposite- Dead. – G”
