Haunted Honeymoon

Dai of the Dead: Is It January Yet?!

Heya Freaks and Minx!

Crazy crazy crazy days have been going on but I am glad to have a minute to finally sit and write to you all!

Have you all had a great holiday season so far? Ha! Me neither. I hate the crunch of the holidays. Buying presents, fighting my way through lines of sales hungry beasts just to get a damn pair of socks,¬† wanting to beat old ladies in those stupid Christmas sweaters…. OK, maybe the last part is just me. BUT, let’s try to find some fun in this dreadful season while we still have to deal with it. :D

So Sad That I Am Writing This BUT A Warning To All Writers…

Recently I was made aware of a problem that is going on in the internet journalism realm that I wanted to talk with you guys about.

Every now and then we get asked to contribute to certain publications with the promise of “getting more exposure” but way too often is this a ruse. There are a few people who are contacting aspiring writers asking them to contribute original stories, poems, and other works then putting their own name in them and passing it off as THEIR original work. This is PLAGIARISM and incredibly wrong but sadly unless something is copyrighted, there is nothing we can really do about it.

I can not stress to you guys enough to NEVER give your work to someone for publication UNLESS you are familiar with the person and know that they are a trustworthy publication or website.

It really upsets me to no end that this is a problem as I know how hard people work to get a foot in the door of this business.

PLEASE don’t be so trusting and know who you are dealing with. This is YOUR work and no one has the right to take it from you.

Copyright the work before you give it to someone if you feel that the situation isn’t 100% trust worthy. This is just to cover yourself.

By the way, for those of you who may choose to take other people’s work and use them as their own, and I find out about you, don’t think I won’t go out of my way to make sure other writers know about you. This is wrong, and sad, and if you don’t have the intelligence to see that, I will remind you of it at every given chance. :)

Supporting Indie Companies… Here Are A Few Kick Ass Places To Shop For Your Favorite Horror Fans!

I asked everyone on my fan page to tell me some of their favorite shops on the net and added a few of my own.

You will be able to find something for EVERYONE in these shops. Look around and tell me which ones are your favorites:

www.HyaenaGallery.com – This is a great place to find HORROR ART and Murderabilia. This happens to be one of my favorite places to visit while in Burbank, CA but lucky for all of us who don’t live there, you can also order off of the net. Original artwork, rare collectables, Charles Manson’s fingernails, there is something for everyone here.

www.DarkDel.com – Dark Del’s is my other favorite place to visit while I am in Burbank. On this site you will find art, movies, and lots of autographed items for sale. If you guys have paid attention, I coined autographed gifts one of the best gifts of 2010, so this is a great place to get them.

www.TatteredStar.com – This is an awesome place to get horror themed shirts. Check out the “Poe Dancing” design. It’s one of my personal favorites, I wear it all the time ;)

www.RottenCotton.com – Can’t tell you how much I love this store! I have my own collection of RC apparel and a kick ass Cannibal Holocaust hoodie. Awesome movie tee shirts and the place you can buy your own copy of Black Devil Doll.

www.TortureCouture.com – For the horror chick in your life. This is a awesome little shop where you can buy her everything from rings to hair bows. Absolutely check this one out.

ChopTopsBBQ.com – For the Bill Moseley fan in your life! Here is a great place to get CD’s, posters, scripts, DVD’s, buttons, etc. You can also get them autographed!

Kick Ass Guest Spot

James Morgart (Won Ton Baby, Tales From The Underbelly Of Hell) has done some pretty awesome research of the top horror film choices of women and the correlation to those choices of the men who hang around us. A few of my favorites were not on the list but I already know I am weird so it’s ok. Ha! Women, more of you need to find the joys in Cannibal Holocaust, that’s all I have to say. BUT I Spit On Your Grave and Last House On The Left did make the list, so I am happy.

Without further ado, here is James’ article :D

Women Horror Fans And The Men Who Hang Around Them – By James Morgart

So I’ve been researching “what women want” out of a horror film.¬† With the influx of women both watching horror films and participating in the writing, directing, and producing of horror films over the past decade, I decided to take a closer look at this trend.

Part of this involved compiling a list of what women horror fans (specifically those who participate on fan forums or social networking sites that involve women horror journalists and filmmakers) considered their favorite films.  While looking at this, I also, inevitably came across what male horror fans (who associate with this trend, that is, hang out at the forums these women moderate or social networking pages/profiles they own) listed as their favorite films.

I collected 72 lists of Top Ten or Top 15 favorite horror films.  40 by women.  32 by men.  Listed below are two master lists that list the most popular films based on frequency.  Conclusions?

A Couple Things…

Here are a few items that I wanted to talk about with you guys. Just random points of interest, so to speak :)

-Just confirmed that I will be at the Pretty Bloody Film Festival in Dallas Texas on February 26, 2011! Pretty Bloody film fest is a celebration of women film makers to coincide with WOMEN IN HORROR MONTH! I am very excited to be there for the event and hope to see all of my Texas people there! I will keep you guys in the loop and give you more details as I get them.

-Wikipedia has deleted the BONEYARD PRESS page again and Hart Fisher is calling all troops to arms. Boneyard¬† Press is Hart’s company that is quite embedded in the industry as one of the early ringleaders against censorship in the horror comic world. You can read the reason why HERE. Check it out and tell us what you think in the comment section below.

And Here Are A Few Words From Fellow Horror Fans!

Have something to say to the Horror Community?! Say it below in the comment section, or to Dai@HorrorNews.Net and join the discussions!

-Travis Legge Yes,¬† I wanna say “If you want to see a thoroughly bad ass indie slasher film, check out RAYMOND DID IT www.raymonddidit.com

-Lucas Marlone ‚Äé^ LOL. I say, when is hatchet 3 coming out?

-Marcus Sabom Please donate to my movie, The Good Friend. www.indiegogo.com/The-Good-Friend. Please?

-Eric Stoner quit being so negative about the state of horror – my contribution

-Dwayne King Support low budget indy buy or rent my film KILL SYNDROME please and thank you!

-Morgan Gary McDannell

Yeah, I’d like to say something to the horror world. I think somebody with a bigger name (at least bigger in the horror genre) should use Erin Brown AKA “Misty Mundae” in some of their films. Though I love the fact that she is an undergroun…d icon, and I love low budget trash films, I think it would be a huge tragedy to see the talent, style and unique look of this beautiful woman stay confined to Z grade trash and sexploitation films. While I understand she is getting a bit more exposure on a sexy television series running on Cinemax called Lingerie, I keep wondering when a truly talented director with ingenuity and foresight will put this lady where she really belongs, in a high profile horror film. Maybe Erin’s happy where she is but I believe she deserves much better and I hope some director with a good eye will agree with me and share this beauty with the whole world. Before anyone writes her off as some nobody who made schlock working for Seduction Cinema, just remember this, Lux Interior was a big fan of hers, and loved a film she starred in very much titled “Spiderbabe”.

-Tom Lawson Hiring over 40 actresses for your films. We want the ladies who were the favorites in our youth…

-Marcus Sabom Always look to the future, the past is a lesson, not an ideal.

-Ron Purtee Don’t ever let anyone tell you can’t do what you want. The Social Media Massacre is proof of that. Oh, and I’m a huge whore. :)

-George Smith The Indy market is kicking the big company’s collective ass at the moment…
Keep up the Great and Original Work people!!!

-Jason Beam Let ‘em know in the Big Apple that I miss ‘em.

Thank you to all who wrote in! <3 If you haven’t please add my other page on FaceBook to keep up with what me and your other brothers and sisters in arms are up to :) CLICK HERE!

Alrighty my lovies! It is just about time for me to go cause some havoc and get back to a few things so I will leave you with all my love and sincere hopes that if you so happen to kick someone during holiday shopping…you send me a picture of it ;)

Have a great week and I will talk to you all soon!!
xox,
Dai
