Bates Motel – Psycho Gameplay

Psycho is a well-known slot machine game based on the 1960 Universal Studio movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock, provided by NextGen gaming software provider. Even if you have seen the movie and know what to expect you will feel a chill up your spine at the sight of the wipers fighting off the rain as the car stops outside Bates Motel. The symbols are depicted on the now famous shower curtain. In the background the eerie scene of Bates home and motel are shown with graphic realism, complete with rain, fog and thunder and lightning. It will take you a moment to remember that you are playing an online slot machine game.

Look and Feel

Angry clouds have gathered overhead and the rain is lashing down. The windscreen wipers unconvincingly attempt to clear the glass but to no purpose. Then you’re there, parked up outside the Bates Motel which is illuminated in a sudden flash of lightning. It’s a cracking opening string that instantly plunges you into the horrific world of Norman Bates. Even gamblers who haven’t seen the Hitchcock film will be able to take hold why it left moviegoers on the edge of their seats, purely from watching this slot’s intro sequence.

The background graphics really set the scene in Psycho slot. The frightening Bates Motel sits behind the reels whereas your display is full with hit and miss flashes of thunder and lightning, pelting rain and a mist-filled car park.

This NextGen game is also jam-packed with icons from the film, and even the reels themselves are set on the drenched wet shower curtain, straight out of that well-known frightening scene. We also love how the Bates Motel sign flickers threateningly, and doubles up to tell you which of the Wild multipliers you are about to receive, too!

The soundtrack of spine-chilling orchestral music and rumbles of thunder creates an boding evil ambiance as you spin the reels in the hopes of creating winning combinations with symbols like Marion Crane, Norman Bates, the knife, the old house, the room key, the cash-stuffed envelope, the peephole, and the playing card symbols. Then there’s the genuine soundtrack. Just like the original movie it’s thrilling and spine-chilling even down to the ‘eeekkk eeekk eeeekkkks’ when you scoop a win. We suggest you to don’t play this alone…

Psycho Gameplay and Symbols

The symbols on the reels create the horror story. Marion Crane is the girl who embezzles $40,000 in cash and seeks place of safety from the cops in a motel owned by Norman Bates, who lives in a house behind. She is in Room No. 1, where she is spied on through the keyhole and then slashed while she is taking a shower. The high value playing card symbols appear slashed and some of them with birds of ill omen like owl and crow.

Psycho is a 5 reels, 3 rows and 25 paylines video slot. All paylines are enabled by default. You only choose the line bet from the given options that start at 0.01 and go up to 2.00. The total bet per spin is automatically set at 25 times the line bet. The house, shower, crane and bates symbols start awarding line payouts when two appear from left to right in an active payline. The five of kind payouts for these symbols are 2500, 1250, 1000 and 250 respectively. Psycho includes an Auto Play feature in which you can set up to 100 spins without having to click the Spin button each time.

Psycho Bonus Features

  • Wild Symbol

The shower with the Wild logo in blood is the wild symbol. It substitutes for all symbols except the scatter. Apart from the wilds occurring in regular spins, Psycho wilds may be randomly added in any spin through the slashing of the shower curtain with a knife. Wins with wilds may be multiplied with a value starting from 2 times and going up to 20 times.

  • Scatter Symbol

The scatter symbol is represented by the hotel owner’s deranged mother, Mrs Bates’ old house, and it’s the most precious symbol in the entire game. It also awards ten, fifteen or twenty free games when it appears three, four or five times anywhere across the reels. Not only can you enjoy extra psycho wilds in the free games bonus, but you can also earn even more liberal wild multipliers of up to 40x. In addition, you can pick up more free spins each time that three or more scatters come into view.

  • Free Spins

This is the only extra feature in the game and it is triggered when you land three or more of the house scatters symbols anywhere on the active reels. Landing three, four or five scatters will see you get ten, fifteen and twenty free spins respectively. It is interesting to note that all the wins obtained during this round will come with enviable multipliers of up to 40X. When the feature is on, a strange figure may approach the reels and hack them using a knife to add you more wild symbols for more winning opportunities. The reels will then be re-evaluated to determine your final wins. The feature can also be re-triggered if you are lucky enough to land three or more scatter symbols during the round.

  • Psycho Gamble Feature

This feature is optional and you can activate it after any spin that awards a payout by clicking the button below the reels. You can bet your payout in a gamble game. You can try to guess the color of the next card dealt. If you guess correctly your payout will be doubled. If you are willing to take a greater risk, you can try to guess the suit of the next card dealt for quadrupling your payout. If you guess wrong you lose the original payout. But if you guess right each time you can repeat the game up to five times.
