Why Is Everything to Do with Horror So Appealing to Us All?

Horror is a genre that we shouldn’t really find appealing, but they do. Over the years there have been some superb horror movies for example, which include classics such as Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Dawn of the Dead. Audiences flocked to the cinema to watch these films and have since bought them, so they can watch them again. But why is everything to do with horror so appealing?

One of the first reasons that everyone loves horror in its many forms is because it’s entertaining. Horror movies are often scary yet packed full of action. This makes them perfect when the boredom sets in. It’s also believed that after watching a scary film the excitation transfer process takes place, and this is also one of the key reasons as to why horror is so appealing.

When we watch a horror movie or play a scary video game a lot of physiological changes happen. Heart rate, blood pressure and respiration increases, there is that surge of adrenaline pumping around the body. When the movie is finished, or the person has stopped playing the game these effects are transferred making something normal such as having fun with friends a much more intense and enjoyable affair.

In a way these feelings can become addictive with fans actively going out to repeatedly experience them. This is like what drives adrenaline junkies on. They want to keep experiencing the same feelings that they get from doing activities such as sky diving, rock climbing and white-water rafting and there’s a desire to keep coming back for more.

Other people like horror because they like testing themselves to see just how brave they are. It’s always a safe test as viewers watch scary films or play gory video games within safe surroundings. In a way, this appeals more to those of us playing horror-based video games such as Resident Evil or Silent Hill. In a way players can push their limits, which can also involve showing off to friends, whilst knowing that they are completely safe at all times.

Horror can also be a test of focus too. A player playing a horror-based slot game like the Phantom of the Opera or The Phantom’s Curse will know that they must keep their focus in order to stand a chance of winning; and anyone wishing to experience these horror themed slot games can click here to visit unibet.co.uk. The same applies when it comes to video games too. If a player loses focus due to the scary surroundings or zombies that they come across they are more likely to see their character be killed or not complete their objectives.

For others, horror in its many forms is just a novelty. It’s a break away from the more traditional action-based films and games. We all like to experience an array of different feelings when it comes to entertainment and the horror genre is great for that. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it will always be extremely popular.
