Film Review: The Honeymoon Phase (short film) (2017)

SYNOPSIS:

Struggling young lovers, Tom and Eve, must endure a 30 day scientific study. Room, board, $50,000 and a month alone together in research facility housing – what could possibly go wrong…

REVIEW:

More short films, kiddies! Although this isn’t a short film so much as a promo. Still, it’s interesting.

I have a short promo for a PROJECT GREENLIGHT entry. if you aren’t familiar with this show, it’s a reality competition of sorts for aspiring filmmakers. The winner gets their film financed and produced. Pretty cool.

The promo I was sent is for a film called THE HONEYMOON PHASE, written and directed by Phillip Carroll Jr and Chloe Carroll, a married couple coming from different aspects of genre. One is a drama fan, the other a horror buff. Mr. Carroll is a long-time filmmaker, having created film projects since he was a child. The couple met working on a film, but this is their first total project together.

They have written a story that blends their different tastes in film, a story about a young couple who volunteer for an experiment designed to test the limits of their relationship. The promo features the filmmakers standing in for the characters, presenting their concept while undergoing the early stages of said experiment.

I do like the concept. it sounds like a film I would likely watch. The promo does a good job of presenting the concept and story elements. I’m not sure if by reviewing this promo I’m helping them in anyway, but I certainly hope so. I have made no secret of my love for indie cinema, and Project Greenlight has brought us some interesting films in the past.

So using my special short scale of one to five, five being awesome, I’m giving this film 4 greenlights.
