This latest offering, which has won audiences in the Philippines where it premiered recently, is a product of a new breed of creative and bold Filipino visionary filmmakers who pushed the horror genre into the next level with five horrifying stories in one movie that are woven together by one surprise element.

Director Frasco Mortiz (yes, he’s the son of legendary teen idol Edgar Mortiz) makes his film debut with “Braso (Arm)” starring TFC’s “Giggerboys”, Robi, AJ and Sam. The three play young guys participating in their fraternity’s final initiation challenge that requires them to spend three hours in a morgue… in boxer shorts, brassieres and panties as part of frat humiliation. As if that is not disturbing enough, a mysterious severed arm seems hell-bent to create a nightmare for them.

Former TV executive Enrico Santos tries his hand with “Paa (Foot)” starring Jodi Sta. Maria, a young beauty who has caught TFC viewers’ attention on several teleseryes, the latest of which is “Noah”. One of the most intense episodes, “Paa” is about a young mother who gets haunted by the girl who met an accident when she stole the child’s shoes to give to her own daughter.

Episode 3 is “Mata (Eye)”, directed by Ato Bautista, whose dark and violent film, “Carnivore”, won for him the Best Director Award at the 2008 Cinemanila Film Festival. This segment is about Rose (Maja, set to co-star in the upcoming TFC fantasy horror series, ‘Imortal’), who after witnessing a crime scene that involves her fiancé Alvin (Rayver who is a regular on TFC’s “ASAP XV”), experiences a repetition of the same dreadful incident until she tells the truth.

The fourth episode is “Mukha (Face)”, directed by Nick Olanka who also makes his film debut after having success as a scriptwriter and TV director. Here, mean advertising boss Riza (Mariel of TFC’s “Wowowee” and “Win na Win” fame) gets horrified by the photocopied faces of the man she maltreated who committed suicide after getting fired.

The last episode is “Puso (Heart)”, directed by celebrated filmmaker Cathy Garcia-Molina who has helmed a series of box-office blockbusters like “You Changed My Life” and “Miss You Like Crazy”. Superstar comedienne Pokwang plays Emily, a travelling carnival worker assigned as a “ghost” in a haunted house attraction. She has a huge but unrequited crush on co-worker Elvis (Zanjoe). Her fortune-teller godmother helps by creating a love potion that wins the love of Elvis… until it gets complicated beyond death.

“Summer is normally associated with action, comedy and light romance movies, but most certainly, there are fans who are craving for the darkness of suspense and horror during these sunny days. With Cinco, they will not be disappointed. But the great thing about this is the five episodes actually combine elements of action, comedy and romance rolled into one scary fun ride!” said Kerwin Du, head of theatricals for ABS-CBN International.
